Ray grew up in many parts of the country because his father was in the Air Force. He went to college and medical school in Alabama before moving to Dallas, Texas to finish medical training. After doing his residency and fellowship at UT Southwestern Medical Center, Ray joined the faculty in the Department of Pediatrics as a Pediatric Nephrologist in 1991.
In his early years as an attending nephrologist, he met Tiffany Riley and Dick Monday. They established a group of therapeutic clowns at Children’s Medical Center called “Funnyatrics”. Seeing them work with patients and attending some of their workshops, it quickly became clear that their passion for their work and the depth of their abilities was phenomenal.
